Bird Spring Stair Climb Long Loop - 1/19/22

Climbing the Bird Spring Staircase

Rita on Escarpment Peak (5000')
David Hardy first established this route in the Bird Spring Range. His route is slightly different and he uses Hardy Canyon (see maps) for his descent. Today, the Terrific Three hikers continued up from the Hardy Canyon Saddle to reach the next high peak (elev. 5150). We placed a register there then descended via a small ridge on the other side. The common trail from beginning to end is the Badger Pass Trail. This leaves from the Late Night Trailhead, leads through a culvert under SR 160 and into a southern portion of the Bird Spring Range. This range is known for containing many seabed fossils found especially along its high rim.

Stats: 5.9 miles; 1580' gain; 4 hours
