Brian's group halfway up Snowpack |
Brian, Chuck and Larry hiked up to Big Falls over the snow on May 23rd. The ice and snow will stay strong only a little bit longer. After that, the danger of falling through the ice and into the running water below becomes more likely. Hike at your own risk. But, it is truly a sight to see! Brian offered a few photos for the blog. Then, I added a few photos of our hike today.

25' Base Hole of Big Falls |
On May 30th, Mike and I did the same hike and some of the snow and ice had melted. We didn't get to hike over Obstacle Rock. (It looked iffy.) But after the rock, it was clear sailing up the snow. Big Falls was running over the cliff in torrents! The hole below the falls is very deep. I donned my microspikes for the hike down the snow but took them off at Obstacle Rock. Amazing day!
Stats: 3.5 miles; 1050' gain; 2.5 hours
