As I pondered on which way to climb Fletcher Peak, I parked at the North Loop Trailhead and was surprised that it was not crowded on this Thursday morning. Still, there were other hikers around as I started up the trail. Climbing at a steady pace, I decided to ascend by way of the Teepee Memorial. Perhaps I would learn more about the route. Indeed, I found the shortest route straight to the teepee and straight up to Fletcher Saddle. Then there was the matter of the rest of the climb to the peak. There are 4 false peaks on the way up and they always fool me. At any rate, I reached the peak just as two other hikers were starting down. I had the peak to myself for my entire break. As you see by the photos, it was a beautiful day with no wind. Just as I started to go down, a group of four hikers arrived. I took their pic as they requested and was on my way. At the Fletcher Saddle, I turned to the right and found the Teepee Trail. Attempting to keep to the trail that I used on the way up, I veered up to the left. Then, I lost the trail as I tried to find the route that paralleled the cliffs. I weaved and wound around until I finally found the North Loop Trail. Interesting. Well, at least I learned some things! The terrain had been steeply undulating so I don't think I want to do the route like that again! The maps below don't reflect my true route. However, they do reflect the track I wish to do next time! I laughed to myself as I returned down the North Loop Trail. When I finally reached my car, there was another hiker there who had parked next to me. He was wearing a kilt. Maybe you know him. Fun and challenging day on the trail.
