This past week, the Lady Hikers have been wandering around the Foxtail area. On this hike, we chose to do the Foxtail Ridge Loop in the clockwise direction. We hiked up the forest road on the lower ridge and dropped into Foxtail Camp. Having just done this next climb the day before, we hiked up the road quietly passing Pioneer Camp and the pump house. On up the steeper section of the road, we found the junction that led down into the wash on the right side. A trail of sorts leads through the wash and trees in a straightish direction toward the large wash to the right. We found the BCL junction by its cairns and went down to check out the maintenance on the wash crossing. Better than before! Next, we started climbing the BCL Trail up the side of Foxtail Ridge. Finally, at the top, we sat for a break. The next part of the hike was the exploratory du jour. Instead of following along the top of the ridge, we found the horse trail below the ridge and followed it as long as we could. It was pretty messy in a couple of places but it was still more straight forward than the rocks at the top. About 3/4ths of the way back along the ridge, we had to climb to the rim. There, the trail was clearly balancing the rock summit. The views were beautiful. We had not done this particular part of the ridge in our wanderings previously this week. The final section of this hike is a descent down to the water tank and back on the forest road. We were a little afraid of rain when we started but it never did. Back at the car in a little over 3 hours.

Stats: 3.6 miles; 1100' gain; 3.25 hours
