Sand Bench Trail - Zion National Park - 5/13/16

View of Canyon Junction

Court of the Patriarchs in Background from Trail

Starting Out
The moderate hike on Friday was the Sand Bench Trail led by John B. Although not a classic Zion hike, it has some unique views of Zion Canyon. It is the trail used by the horse rides out of the Zion Lodge area so the trail surface had some to be desired! The loop was done in a CCW direction so the ascent was mostly in deep sand. It was also in the shade first so they had to make a choice on a hot day. This shorter version of the hike began and ended at the Court of the Patriarchs shuttle stop. After crossing the road, the trail climbs up to the bench above the landslide area for the loop.

4 miles; 1000 feet elevation gain
