The Whale - 3/12/13

The Super Tuesday Hike for this week was an almost 3000 foot climb to the peak of The Whale, a large peak found behind Summerlin and Bighorn Peaks in the Red Rock Canyon NCA. To accomplish this hike, the out and back route is almost eight miles in length. The trailhead is located in a parking lot off of Cliff Shadows Parkway near I-215.

Richard offers these words and GPS information. Both Richard and Candace were the photogs du jour.

14 members made the long slog across the desert in search for The Whale.
It is not the highest limestone peak in the area but is very easily identified from West Lake Mead Blvd offering great views of the surrounding areas.
This was not an easy hike/scramble and the group was great. ~ Richard
